The Hedvig Mollestad Trio get heavy on “Beastie, Beastie”

The Hedvig Mollestad Trio are readying a new album, Smells Funny, and they’ve released a teaser: the song “Beastie, Beastie.”

When she solos on the six-minute track—which is often—lead guitarist Hedvig Mollestad Thomassen shreds but doesn’t showboat. Her screaming guitar spearheads an instantly bewitching introduction to the band that Classic Rock Magazine dubbed “Jazz Sabbath.”

The Norwegian avant jazz-rock group have put out five albums since 2011, all of them on experimental label Rune Grammofon. The trio is rounded off by bassist Ellen Brekken and drummer Ivar Loe Bjørnstad.
