The Grammy-winning jazz fusion collective Snarky Puppy have shared their latest single, “Xavi,” from their upcoming album.
Clocking in at nine and a half minutes, the single kicks off with a thrumming Afrobeat percussion. They layer brass instrumentation soon after. Different instruments get their turn in the solo spotlight, and a keyboard-led finale wraps it all up.
“The idea here is that everything is fluid, that everything is always moving and that we’re all in a constant state of immigration,” said bandleader Michael League in a statement about their pending release. “Obviously the album’s title is not without political undertones.”
“Xavi” is the first single from the collective’s 12th LP, Immigrance, due out March 15. The group’s saxophonist Chris Bullock also recently dropped his own solo album, Boomtown, earlier this month, featuring the funky track, “Anti Jam.”
