Sarah Tandy releases “Timelord”

From her forthcoming album, ‘Infection in the Sentence.’

Is London pianist Sarah Tandy a Doctor Who fan? It sure seems like it, going off the title of “Timelord” from her forthcoming album, Infection in the Sentence.

The nearly seven-minute cut starts out leisurely, before Tandy enters with nimble keyboard lines. Binker Golding—of Binker & Moses—shines on the saxophone as well, while Ezra Collective’s Femi Koleoso keeps everyone on their toes with skittering percussion.

“The music [on Infection in the Sentence] developed gradually through many years playing [in] London’s underground music scene, and immersing myself in the myriad musical languages surrounding me,” Tandy told Clash Music. “In the album I’m seeking to find a continuum between the jazz music, which I grew up listening to, and the multi-faceted, genre-melting sounds of present day London.”

Infection in the Sentence is due out March 8 on Jazz Re:freshed. The London-based jazz organization has already ushered notable records by Rosie Turton and the SEED Ensemble into 2019.
