Posthumous Tony Allen album announced

‘There is No End’ will feature Skepta, Danny Brown and more.

Blue Note will honor the late Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen by releasing There is No End, a posthumous album featuring an impressive line-up of guest musicians.

There is No End encompasses a selection of tracks Allen produced and wrote in 2019 alongside co-producer Vincent Taeger. Sampa the Great, Danny Brown, Lava La Rue and a number of other artists will appear on There is No End.

The album’s first single, “Cosmosis,” is out now. It features rapper Skepta (who previously collaborated with Allen and Gorillaz on “How Far?”) and poet Ben Okri contributing raps and spoken word vocals respectively over a shuffling beat laid down by Allen.

Damon Albarn—Allen’s former bandmate in The Good, the Bad & the Queen—also contributed to the song. “Recording ‘Cosmosis’ was the last time I hung out with Tony. A fantastic night was had by all,” he said in a statement.

Taeger said in a statement that working with Allen was an incredibly influential experience. He said that Allen was “a teacher without speaking… a drummer and a guardian, with a great artistic vision and that vision filled the songs even after he had left us.”

There is No End will arrive on April 30 via Blue Note Records. Listen to “Cosmosis here:
