Nubiyan Twist have shared new track “Flow” featuring CHERISE ahead of their album Freedom Fables next month.
The London group’s latest single boasts a winning neo-soul sound built from a looping beat originally crafted by bandleader Tom Excell while on the road. Jaunty keys underpin CHERISE’s lyrical call for mindfulness as an escape from the daily grind and pressure to conform and perform to society’s standards.
“Freedom Fables reflects on the power of narratives. Each vocalist on this record explores their own memoirs, a freedom of expression underpinning our belief that music is the ultimate narrative for unity,” Excell said in a statement. “The record references a lot of music that we all loved during our formative years; you can hear touches of broken beat, blunted hip hop, highlife, Latin, jazz and UK soul running through the tracks.”
“Flow” follows a number of previously released album cuts, including “If I Know” and “Buckle Up” featuring Soweto Kinch. The first album from the group since 2019’s Jungle Run, Freedom Fables is out March 12 via Strut Records.
