Meet Gregory Porter, astronaut in his “Concorde” music video

The singer will perform for a NASA mission launch tomorrow.

Gregory Porter has shared new single “Concorde” from his upcoming album All Rise, which will be released next month.

The single comes with a space-themed video that ties in with Porter’s scheduled performance for NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover Mission on Thursday, July 30. As the first artist ever to be invited to perform for a Mars mission launch, Porter will sing his own version of “America the Beautiful” from his Californian home.

“I feel honored to be invited by NASA to perform before this historic launch,” Porter said in a statement. “I have always been inspired by space exploration ever since I was a boy, and it continues to fill me with awe when I look to the sky at night. It is wonderful to be part of this spectacular event and share in a collective moment of interplanetary adventure with millions around the world.”

Porter’s rich vocals flow effortlessly over gorgeous instrumentals in “Concorde,” which the singer wrote while on an airplane. In its moving music video, Porter dons an astronaut’s suit to explore his neighborhood whilst a younger stargazer—played by his son Demyan Porter—dreams of space.

All Rise, which also features the songs “Phoenix,” “Thank You” and “Revival,” is due out August 28. Watch the video for “Concorde” here:
