Bolden, a biopic about cornetist and jazz pioneer Buddy Bolden, will arrive in theaters next month. It will feature an original soundtrack by none other than trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, which was released late last week.

The 26-track soundtrack includes both classics, like “Tiger Rag” and “Basin Street Blues,” and original work by Marsalis, who recruited some musicians from New Orleans—Bolden’s home city—to record in an ensemble.

“I actually idealized his sound—no, you can’t recreate it,” Marsalis told Offbeat of his approach to the soundtrack. “What I tried to do is composite three trumpet players who I know were influenced by him.”
