Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin unite on new album

9th Wonder is also part of the supergroup known as Dinner Party.

The supergroup known as Dinner Party—Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper and 9th Wonder—have released their eponymous debut album.

The ensemble had announced the album in late June, releasing “Freeze Tag” featuring Phoelix—a honey-voiced collaborator of the rapper Noname and a feature on four of the record’s seven tracks.

The organic hip hop-jazz project that is Dinner Party was built on rock-solid foundations: Martin and Glasper, who met in 1996 at a jazz band camp, first had the idea for Dinner Party while touring as part of R+R=NOW a few years ago; Martin and Glasper met in 1992 via a high school jazz band. The trio even collaborated on an album as The Pollyseeds in 2017.

“Our chemistry is very strong,” Glasper told the FADER of the Dinner Party sessions. “We all have a rapport with each other. It’s like sitting down and having a conversation over drinks, and then we’ll look up and be like, ‘Oh, we recorded something.’ You don’t even realize it because it’s literally just that simple. When you have the right chemistry with people, it’s not hard.”
