Joseph Shabason drops video for collab with Destroyer’s Dan Bejar

“I Don’t Want to Be Your Love” will appear on Shabason’s forthcoming ‘Anne’ EP.

Saxophonist and experimental musician Joseph Shabason has released an enthralling video for “I Don’t Want to Be Your Love,” which features Dan Bejar of Destroyer on vocals.

The clip centers on a dancer (Andrew Allan) who performs a beautiful, balletic routine for a dying man (Jared Harris), with the blessing of his companion (Kelli Garner). It’s a compelling, if NSFW, watch.

The video, director Zach Shields said in a statement, “explore[s] this inner conflict of the performer—the acceptance and isolation of being on stage. The joy and shame of being on display. The fragile balance of baring one’s soul.”

“I Don’t Want to Be Your Love” will appear on Shabason’s forthcoming EP, Anne, which is framed as the “afterword” to his 2018 full-length album of the same title. Both releases are named after Shabason’s mother and deal with her struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
