Up-and-coming Toronto artist Jonah Yano has teamed up with fellow Canadians BADBADNOTGOOD on the track, “Nervous,” which arrived alongside a bizarre visual.
Yano’s self-directed clip features a close-up shot of the musician applying eye make-up crudely as the laid-back, acid jazz-infused tune tune burgeons on. The Japan-born artist waxes lyrical about being nervous when it comes to romance on the loved-up ballad. “Cigarettes make me nervous / And I turn water into wine / And I called you on purpose / Because I know you got the time,” he sings.
Of the eccentric visual, Yano explained to the FADER that “[the video] perfectly captures the moment in time that ‘Nervous’ is about, where [he] was falling really really really in love like never before and how [he] just had to let it happen—the same way you just have to let your partner draw on your face sometimes.”
