Joel Ross releases new song, “Gato’s Gift”

His new album ‘Who Are You?’ is out next month.

Vibraphonist Joel Ross has released “Gato’s Gift,” a fresh preview of his upcoming album Who Are You?.

The soothing tune features Ross’ backing band Good Vibes: fellow Blue Note artist Immanuel Wilkins on alto saxophone, Jeremy Corren on piano, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass and Jeremy Dutton on drums. Harpist Brandee Younger appears as a special guest.

“Gato’s Gift” is one of 15 tracks on Who Are You?. It is Ross’ second album as bandleader following his 2019 record KingMaker, which featured the tracks “Ill Relations” and “Yana.”

“This record is a culmination of our maturing—as people, as a band, within the music—it’s about figuring out who we are,” Ross said in a statement. “I don’t believe in coming into anything with expectations. As musicians, we’re just expressing ourselves.”
