Joe Restivo releases simple yet charming video for “Starlight Motel”

From his forthcoming solo debut, ‘Where’s Joe?’

Memphis guitarist Joe Restivo proves there’s charm to be found in a cozy motel room in his new video for “Starlight Motel.” The song previews his solo debut LP, Where’s Joe?.

Restivo laboriously recreates the smooth, leisurely sound of a bygone jazz era with “Starlight Motel,” and the visual aesthetic of the music video follows the same approach. After pulling up to Starlite Motel in an old Volvo, Restivo sinks into a comfortable chair in his room, guitar in hand. His band find their places amongst the lamps, performing the peaceful track while bathed in soft light.

The song was “inspired by the broken mid-century hourly motel signs around Memphis, in particular, the Lamplighter Motel sign on Lamar, which was near my old apartment,” Restivo told Jazziz, which premiered the visual. “I wanted that lilting feeling as we drive down Lamar or Summer Avenue looking at the old decaying signs, wondering what’s gone on in those places over the decades.”

“Starlight Motel” will feature on Where’s Joe?, which arrives next Friday via Blue Barrel Records. Watch the video now:
