Jamie Saft, Steve Swallow, Bobby Previte drop new joint album

‘You Don’t Know the Life’ is out on RareNoiseRecords now.

The prolific pianist Jamie Saft has released yet another album with bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Bobby Previte: You Don’t Know the Life, which dropped on RareNoiseRecords last Friday.

The three musicians have collaborated before, on 2014’s The New Standard and 2017’s Loneliness Road, which also featured Iggy Pop on vocals. On this new project, they join jazz’s rich legacy of organ trios, with intriguing results. “The sound of the Hammond organ really resonates with Steve’s gorgeous sound and with Bobby’s very unique tonal approach to the drums,” Saft commented.

You Don’t Know the Life features the trio putting their own spin on others’ works, such as “Re: Person I Knew” by Bill Evans and the title track, originally by Moving Sidewalks, the psychedelic blues band Billy Gibbons helmed before ZZ Top. There are also original compositions, like “The Cloak” and “Stable Manifold.”
