Jacob Collier continues his ‘Djesse’ album saga with third volume

The new volume is heavy on hip hop and R&B collaborators.

Multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier has shared the highly anticipated third installment of his Djesse album series.

Over the course of months, the English artist rolled out the red carpet for the third and penultimate Djesse album with several collaborations: “Time Alone With You” featuring Daniel Caesar, “In My Bones” with Kimbra and Tank and the Bangas, “All I Need” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Mahalia and “He Won’t Hold You” featuring Rapsody. Other guests on the album include Kiana Ledé, Jessie Reyez and T-Pain.

Collier’s Djesse journey began with the first volume in December 2018, continuing with the second package in July 2019. It will conclude with the fourth volume.

“What I was determined to do about two and a half years ago when I set out on this voyage was to, in some way, describe all of the music that I had been listening to for my whole life,” Collier told NPR.

“This particular volume, I suppose it explores much more the idea of almost negative space. It’s like all of the whole scenario has collapsed and you’re in the middle of the night and you’re exploring all of the kind of deep funk within all of the strange weirdness of what it means to stay up late at night and create stuff.”

Collier has also released a final video from Djesse Vol 3, for “Sleeping on My Dreams.” Watch the colorful clip, “filmed in a whirlwind one-day shoot back in January” with some of Collier’s favorite dancers, below:
