The explosive Hedvig Mollestad Trio have released “Bewitched, Dwarfed and Defeathered” from their forthcoming album Smells Funny, due out January 18 via Rune Grammofon.

Linking doom rock, esoteric jazz and even skronk, the Norwegian trio are very much out on their own making waves as one of guitar music’s most innovative and creative outings in recent memory. They’re prolific, too—Smells Funny will be their sixth record in eight years.

“Bewitched, Dwarfed and Defeathered,” like the previous single “Beastie, Beastie,” lends itself to some weighty riffery, laced with a free jazz ethos that has allowed the trio to continue to innovate. In a statement, lead guitarist Hedvig Mollestad said they wanted the song “to be holy terror, the result was Melvins meets Terje Rypdal meets an instrumental Megadeth on acid.”
