Get saxy with Yusufla

The London group—which features three saxophonists—have released their debut EP.

Earlier this week, London jazz outfit Yusufla dropped their debut self-titled EP.

Recorded live and mixed at Soup Studio with Giles Barrett, the four-track release serves as a compelling introduction to their unique setup: three saxophonists (of varying range), backed up on electric bass and drums.

The three saxophone players—bandleader Rachel Jackson (alto sax), Imogen Walker (soprano sax) and Celyn Lloyd Thomas (tenor sax)—met while studying music in Manchester. “We’re classically trained rather than from a straight jazz schooling, which I think you can hear coming through in parts of the sound we’ve created together,” Jackson told Supreme Standards. Bassist David Senen Ruiz and drummer James Storer round out the group, whose name was inspired by jazz luminary Yusef Lateef.
