Elliot Galvin has dropped a new song, “Change,” off his forthcoming record, Modern Times.
Led by Galvin on piano, the energetic track makes room for tempo shifts and various percussive flourishes by drummer Corrie Dick. Tom McCredie rounds out the trio on double bass.
To record Modern Times, Galvin headed to Artone Studio in the Netherlands for its direct-to-vinyl recording technology, mixing the music live and laying down the album in one continuous take on each side of the record.
“I had been making music with a lot of electronic instruments and becoming a bit disengaged with making acoustic music. Then I saw a solo piano concert by Jason Moran when I was in Montreux and I was so inspired,” he said in a statement. “It reminded me why I loved making jazz and acoustic music. It was so immediate and human. I wanted to make a record like this.”
Modern Times is out April 19 on Edition Records. Hear “Change” now:
