Elixir release soul-stirring new album, ‘Gratitude and Grief’

Inspired by Michael Leunig’s poetry.

Australian jazz trio Elixir have recently shared their latest album, Gratitude and Grief.

But this isn’t just any ol’ album—it’s a record four years in the making. The outfit, led by ARIA award winner/vocalist Katie Noonan, have teamed up with Australian poet-cartoonist Michael Leunig to create a project that melds spoken word poetry and jazz.

Gratitude and Grief features ten of Leunig’s most popular poems, including “La La Land,” “Peace (is My Drug)” and “The Path to Your Door,” and transforms them into musical masterpieces.

“I really wanted to work with Leunig because I feel that he’s such a wonderful philosopher,” Noonan told Scenestr. “The intimacy of his words really suits the kind of music we make.”
