David Wertman & Sun Ensemble’s ‘Earthly Delights’ to get reissue

    Free jazz all the way from 1978.

    Earthly Delights, the 1978 album by David Wertman & Sun Ensemble, is getting a double vinyl reissue by BBE Music. You can now stream one of its four compositions, “Relations,” ahead of its release.

    Billed by BBE as a “forgotten free jazz masterpiece,” Earthly Delights was the first recording by Wertman and his five-piece Sun Ensemble band. Wertman, who stood out for his self-taught upright bass-playing style, worked closely with the likes of Dr Lonnie Smith, Billy Bang and Arthur Blythe over the course of his career. He died in 2013.
