Brownswood releases documentary about Melbourne jazz scene

‘Sunny Side Up’ shares a title with the label’s July compilation.

Brownswood Recordings has followed up its Melbourne jazz compilation Sunny Side Up with a 11-minute documentary about the scene and its participants.

The Gilles Peterson-founded label released the nine-track collection in July. It is the sequel to We Out Here, the influential London-centric compilation that Brownswood released last year.

The new documentary, directed by Frankie Fresco, features performance footage and scenes from the studio. In interviews, several of the musicians who contributed to Sunny Side Up paint a vibrant portrait of the collaborative Melbourne scene and the way it functions.
