BADBADNOTGOOD drop cover of “Key to Love (is Understanding)”

Featuring Japanese-Canadian singer Jonah Yano.

BADBADNOTGOOD have teamed up with Japanese-Canadian singer Jonah Yano on a cover of The Majestics’ 1982 song, “Key to Love (is Understanding).”

The Toronto group “hope our version relays how special this song is and gives it some new listeners and a second life,” they said in a press statement. “It’s an incredibly beautiful song that deserves to be heard and we hope to play a small part in that,” they added.

Their soulful cover of the song has also received praise from The Majestics’ Donald Cooper. “It is a pleasant surprise,” he said in the same statement. “They did a good job and it was well done with their own slight personal twist… [It’s] an honor to be recognized.”

“Key to Love (is Understanding)” is the latest release from Light in the Attic Records’ series of vinyl releases, following Mac DeMarco’s cover of “Honey Moon” by Haruomi Hosono. Earlier this year, BADBADNOTGOOD and Yano teamed up on “Nervous,” the title track from the singer’s debut EP.
