Angel Bat Dawid, Hanne De Backer and Signe Emmeluth will release a new album this April.
The self-titled album documents an August 2019 concert the trio performed at Summer Bummer Festival in Antwerp, Belgium—a performance made all the remarkable by the fact that the three musicians had agreed to play only due to a festival cancellation, and had met for the first time just hours before taking the stage.
This record, which is divided into “Side A” and “Side B,” comes less than six months since Dawid’s acclaimed album LIVE, which will be getting a physical release on CD and double vinyl (available internationally today and in North America next month). The spiritual jazz clarinetist, composer and singer made her debut in 2019 with her album The Oracle.
De Backer is an Antwerp-based saxophone player and theatre performer who released her debut album Gabbro, a collaboration with Marc De Maeseneer, in 2017. Emmeluth is a Norway-based Danish saxophone player and composer, who performs in the groups Emmeluth’s Amoeba, Konge and OWL.
Angel Bat Dawid, Hanne De Backer, and Signe Emmeluth is out April 30 on Smalltown Supersound’s Actions for Free Jazz imprint. Hear a snippet of “Side B” here:
