Aaron Parks releases ‘Little Big II: Dreams of a Mechanical Man’

A sequel to his 2018 album.

Jazz pianist Aaron Parks has continued his Little Big story by releasing its second chapter, Little Big II: Dreams of a Mechanical Man.

The first installation of Parks’ album series appeared in 2018. Little Big itself was a sequel of sorts, responding to and drawing inspiration from Parks’ 2008 Blue Note Records debut Invisible Cinema. Skip forward over a decade and the musician’s latest album has arrived via New York label Ropeadope Records.

In a statement, Parks explained his aim on Little Big II: “I want to cast a spell, to lull you into a trance where you think you know where you’re going, and then take you somewhere unexpected, almost without realizing how you got there.”

Parks recorded the album with his quartet, also called Little Big, consisting of guitarist Greg Tuohey, bassist David Ginyard Jr and percussionist Tommy Crane. “The idea is for this band to simultaneously feel like a well-oiled machine and a scrappy crew of improvisers,” Parks said.
