Zaytoven pulls off a solo ‘Tiny Desk’ after Future doesn’t show up

Savor these live trap instrumentals.

Last month, Future was supposed to perform a Tiny Desk concert in the NPR offices. When he didn’t appear, superproducer and longtime collaborator Zaytoven saved the day with a trap instrumental performance.

Zaytoven and his backing band performed an impeccable three-song set, poignant solos from flautist Elena Pinderhughes and guitarist Neil Garrard standing in for the absent rapper’s vocals. The first two track, “Lay Up” and “Peacoat,” come from Zaytoven’s 2015 mixtape with Future, Beast Mode, while the closer, “Mo Reala,” is a more recent Future-assisted cut, from the producer’s 2018 album, Trapholizay.

It’s a pity Future was a no-show, but we’re certainly not complaining about this outstanding Zaytoven showcase. Watch his Tiny Desk concert below:
