Earlier this week, beleaguered rapper YBN Almighty Jay released “Let Me Breathe.” The track addressed, among other things, a recent mugging that left him hospitalized. Now, TMZ reports that his alleged attackers have been arrested—but on charges unrelated to his case.
Three days ago, Rap-a-Lot Records CEO J Prince called for justice for Jay. In an Instagram post, he named “a clown by the name of Zae and his crew” as the attackers who mugged the YBN crew member. The hip hop mogul also noted that Jay—whom Prince professed to be “invested in”—was robbed of his Rap-a-Lot Records chain during the attack, “so therefore they have robbed a piece of me.”
After Prince’s post, a man named Zae Numbafive denied both robbing Jay of his chain and “cutting” him, as Complex notes. “Don’t know how he got cut, don’t wish that on nobody,” his Instagram story read. But in a music video Zae posted, for a song titled “Traumatized,” he can be seen swinging a chain that apparently resembles Jay’s Rap-a-Lot chain.
Now, TMZ’s sources claim that a gang called Jack Boyz—of which Zae Numbafive is a member—are persons of interest in Jay’s case. Zae and three other members were arrested two days ago as part of an unrelated federal investigation concerning the shooting of an off-duty New York police officer. They apparently face a charge of attempted murder in the aid of racketeering, besides firearm charges.
So far, neither Jay nor Prince have commented on these developments.
