YG, Mozzy and Blxst have dropped their latest collaborative single “Perfect Timing.”
Over contemplative guitar loops and thumping 808s, the rappers flex their successes and reflect on their respective journeys. “Ayy, the timing was perfect / But as humble as I am, I kinda deserve it / We done got it out the mud and climbed to the surface / If I’mma take the risks, then it’s gotta be worth it, yeah,” Blxst and YG sing on the track’s infectious hook.
In the accompanying music video, the rappers enjoy time together on a luxurious beachside villa, alongside gorgeous women and ATVs.
“Perfect Timing” follows “Bompton to Oak Park,” marking YG and Mozzy’s second joint single together. It’s also the title track to their upcoming collaborative album. The album’s release date is yet to be confirmed but is speculated to arrive this May.
YG was recently in the headlines over his 2014 song “Meet the Flockers,” which attracted renewed scrutiny for lyrics widely criticised as anti-Asian in light of recent hate crimes against Asian people around the globe. A censored version of the song was uploaded on streaming services in April, although YouTube said it would not remove or replace the track despite requests from its own employees.
YG had also recently collaborated with Big Sean for “Go Big,” a track off the film Coming 2 America’s soundtrack. On the other hand, Mozzy recently dropped a music video for his single “My Ambitionz”, and released his sophomore album Occupational Hazard in late 2020.
