Of all the musicians we lost this year, the death of Pop Smoke in February was one of the most shocking and painful. As 2020 ends, his team has released a video for “What You Know Bout Love” that compiles footage of the rapper in happier times.
From TikToks of users dancing to Pop’s music to clips of the rapper getting hyped in the studio, shooting hoops and dancing with his friends, the Oliver Cannon-directed video will bring a tear to the eye of anyone who loved Pop and his music.
The video is bookended with short videos of Pop talking directly to his fans. “I don’t know who needs to hear this, bro, but don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it,” he says at the end. “Shoot for the fucking stars, n***a, aim for the moon.”
Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon is the title of Pop’s posthumous debut album, which got a deluxe edition in July. The clip for “What You Know Bout Love” follows previously released clips for “Aim for the Moon,” the “Diana” remix featuring King Combs and Calboy, and “Make it Rain.”
In other Pop Smoke news, a release date has been confirmed for the Eddie Huang movie Boogie, in which Pop makes a cameo—his first time acting in a film.
