In three days’ time, a new documentary about Eminem, Marshall from Detroit, will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. A teaser trailer for the film, which uses 360-degree VR technology, is out now.
The 21-minute documentary follows Eminem and rap journalist Sway Calloway driving around Shady’s Detroit stomping grounds, chopping it up about everything from creative process to the notion of a hometown. The use of VR technology allows viewers to “ride along in the backseat, gleaning a new understanding of these famed cultural figures,” the film’s description reads.
The brief teaser, itself a 360-degree video, lets viewers explore the wintry landscape of Motor City, and even move to different angles to see Calloway interview Eminem. “Back then, we used to think, ‘Man, nobody comes to Detroit,’” Marshall Mathers tells him. “They used to look at us like a ghost town.”
