Watch Stormzy, Stalk Ashley cover Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl”

As part of BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge month.

Stormzy is the latest artist to appear on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. As part of his three-song set, the grime artist covered Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl” with the help of singer Stalk Ashley.

Stormzy shows off his groovy vocals on the intro before segueing into an original verse: “And I guess I gotta tell you couple things / They ain’t always gonna love to see you win / You’re a queen and your father was a king / And you’re precious like the color of your skin.” Ashley jumps in after with a soulful rendition of Beyoncé’s verse, assisted by a trio of background singers.

Besides “Brown Skin Girl,” Stormzy also performed “Sounds of the Skeng” and “Crown.” The original version of “Brown Skin Girl” appears on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift, an album inspired by Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King. Watch his performances below.
