Jaden Smith has shared a video for “Photograph,” a cut from Cool Tape Vol 3.
The ballad was inspired by the heartbreak that the rapper experienced when he was 17. In the self-directed clip, he metaphorically depicts hopelessness and sorrow, sinking to the bottom of the ocean and letting the waves crash over him onshore.
Of the visual’s breathtaking Bahamas setting, Jaden said he wanted to convey the feelings of an “emotional nightmare” that one can still experience in paradise. “Somebody is waking up in paradise alone, and it kind of turns into an emotional nightmare,” he told Billboard.
“I wanted to show another side of the album and wanted to show another side of me and my musical journey,” Jaden added. “I don’t really do music videos to songs like this on the album. I really wanted to take the time to make a music video for one of these types of songs so people can see me in that light as well.”
Cool Tape Vol 3 was released last year and featured Justin Bieber on “Falling for You” and Raury on “Endless Summer.” He also previously released the song “I’m Ready” for the soundtrack of the video game Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
