“Hercules,” Common’s brand-new single featuring Swizz Beatz, is out now. It arrived late last week alongside a music video co-starring Vince Staples.
Directed by Carrick Moore Gerety, the clip opens at a convenience store where Staples works as a cashier. Common soon enters to shop, but the rapper’s trip is cut short when two armed robbers appear and demand money from Staples. That’s when Common’s hero instincts kick in, and he botches their plan.
In a press statement, Common revealed that “Hercules” is the lead single from the rapper’s forthcoming full-length, Let Love. The album was inspired by Common’s own memoir, Let Love Have the Last Word, which he says “gave me a path to write about things I had never written about before.”
“Production-wise, I knew that the music had to have depth, soul and dimension to it,” he added. “I wanted the musicianship and the spirit of what live music brings, but it also had to have something raw and basement about it.”
The record is due out August 30 and will include “HER Love,” a collab he previously released with Daniel Caesar.
