Rappers Bad Bunny and J Balvin helped bring Latin fever to the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday alongside headliners Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
Shakira opened the 14-minute performance with a troupe of dancers as they sashayed across the stage to her 2009 hit “She Wolf,” before segueing into other notable songs like “Empire” and “Whenever, Wherever.” Soon after, Bad Bunny joined the Colombian pop star on stage as the song transitioned into “I Like it,” the rapper’s 2018 collaboration with Cardi B and J Balvin. “This is the new religion bang in Latino gang, gang, ¡yeh!” the pair enthused. They followed it up with a saucy rendition of “Chantaje,” Shakira’s 2016 joint effort with Maluma.
The second half of the performance was led by J Lo, who kicked off her segment with “Jenny from the Block” and “Get Right.” She later invited J Balvin on stage to duet on his songs “Que Calor” and “Mi Gente,” the latter remixed with Lopez’s 2001 R&B hit “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” The New York singer-actress wrapped things up with a powerful take on “Let’s Get Loud,” before reuniting with Shakira for one last sendoff, a cheery version of “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).”
Following their guest appearance, Bad Bunny and J Balvin took to social media to thank their “Latino Gang” with a series of backstage photos featuring Shakira and J Lo. Check it out below.
