Vic Mensa ushers in fall with a new single titled “Summer’s Over,” featuring Keyon Christ.
The atmospheric track features the duo rapping and singing over distorted synths and a groovy bassline. “Grab a cup, pour some up, let’s get turnt / Summer’s almost over, it’s a substance rollercoaster ride / Split the dutch, rolls the rutz, let’s get turnt / Summer’s almost over and you know I’m never sober,” goes the chorus.
“’Summer’s Over’ is really just a vibe to head into fall with,” Mensa told Hypebeast. “Keyon’s sonic landscape is so unique that even with a pretty straightforward lyrical direction it’s still going to sound like nothing you’ve ever heard before. We were really just having fun with it.”
The producer is also working on Mensa’s next project, the Chicago rapper said. “[His] production is the foundation for my next album, so we’ve just been cooking non-stop. I think we connect creatively because neither of us is interested in doing the same shit everyone else is doing,” Mensa added.
“Summer’s Over” is the latest solo release from Mensa, following last year’s Hooligans EP. Last month, the rapper dropped 93Punx, the self-titled debut of his punk rock band, which was executive-produced by Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.
