It’s only been two months since Trippie Redd released his debut album, but he’s already got new music to share. Earlier today, he unveiled his latest single, “Topanga.”
The track, produced by ChopsquadDJ, is a surprisingly melodic offering from the Ohio rapper. Compared to Redd’s more notable hits such as “Poles 1469” and “Shake it Up,” which prominently feature heavy bass and 808s, “Topanga” showcases the rapper’s vocal range over a smooth, piano-driven beat. “Don’t talk to strangers / Since a youngin’ I’ve been totin’ bangers / I might take that li’l bitch to Topanga,” he rap-sings on the chorus.
According to the 19-year-old, “Topanga” will kick off his upcoming project, A Love Letter to You 3. “If you listen to [the mixtape] from start to finish, that’s how I put it together,” Redd told Zane Lowe of Beats 1 Radio. “It’s art, it’s not anything to play with. It starts with the ‘Topanga’ track and ends with some guitar. It’s a good ending.”
The rap star also revealed that A Love Letter to You 3 is “almost done,” although an official release date hasn’t been confirmed.
