Trippie Redd celebrates his 21st birthday with “Dreamer”

The new song also indirectly honors his late brother.

Trippie Redd celebrated his birthday with the release of a brand-new song, “Dreamer.”

The Ohio rapper, who turned 21 on Thursday, is sentimental and wishful on the Yeezo-produced track. Over an alt-rock-inspired melody, Redd rap-sings: “I can touch your soul and tell you what you wanna hear / I’ll warm you when you’re cold, I keep you safe, nothing to fear / Already know, I know, I felt the pain, I shedded tears / And I can go blindfold, and I can still see that you’re here.”

In a press statement, Redd said that his rap dreams were inspired by his older brother, Dirty Redd, an up-and-coming rapper who was killed in a car accident in 2014. “I took his dream and did it myself,” the younger Redd said. “I like making timeless music. You’ve got to think of a timeless concept—love, hate, anger, sadness—all that shit is timeless. And if you can make something without it just meaning one thing, people can feel it and turn it into their own. That’s what makes it timeless.”

“Dreamer” is the latest in a string of releases from Redd. Last month he dropped two collaborations, “Excitement” featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR and “Tell Me U Luv Me” with the late Juice WRLD. In February, Redd released the deluxe edition of his 2019 LP, A Love Letter to You 4.
