Tributes pour in for the late Nipsey Hussle on his birthday

The rapper would have turned 34 on Thursday.

Yesterday, fans and peers of the late Nipsey Hussle honored the beloved rapper on what would have been his 34th birthday.

Four months ago, the Los Angeles rapper born Ermias Asghedom was gunned down outside his store, Marathon Clothing. His murder precipitated a wave of mourning in the hip hop community that endures today.

“We are to live in our highest vibrations today because that is how Nip lived his life,” Hussle’s partner Lauren London wrote in an emotional Instagram post yesterday. “We should encourage and inspire today because that is how Hussle lived his life… His purpose still lives on with us all.”

Beyoncé’s tribute quoted Jay-Z’s bars about Hussle from “Mood 4 Eva,” a song on the Lion King-inspired album she executive-produced: “The marathon will be televised for NIP / ’Cause true kings don’t die, we multiply, peace.” Her Instagram post ended with a wish: “Happy birthday in paradise.”

Other artists, collaborators and friends of Nip, including YG, Ty Dolla $ign, Meek Mill and Snoop Dogg, paid homage on social media as well. See their posts below:
