Theophilus London, Tame Impala release “Only You”

A reimagination of Steve Monite’s 1984 Afro-boogie hit.

Theophilus London and Kevin Parker’s Tame Impala have released a cover of Steve Monite’s 1984 classic, “Only You,” under the moniker, Theo Impala.

Their version’s mostly similar to the original, keeping the lo-fi, Afro-boogie feel with a couple of modern touches here and there. But it’s the accompanying visual that makes the collab a fun one to watch. Shot in VHS-style by Frankie Latina, the clip finds London and Parker performing in a room awash in glitter, an aesthetic that matches the song’s retro vibes perfectly.

This isn’t the first time London and Parker have come together, though. In 2016, the duo teamed up to release an original, “Whiplash,” which they debuted at a Ray-Ban and Boiler Room event curated by Virgil Abloh. And who knows, maybe we’ll get more songs from Theo Impala in the future.
