Late last week, Tee Grizzley released “Locked Up,” an emotional new song dedicated to his mom—just in time for Mother’s Day this past weekend.
On the track, Grizzley raps about how incarceration and experiences with the criminal justice system have affected his family. “My mama locked up / My pops got popped up / Lil bro still locked up / And it got me fucked up,” he spits.
The rapper’s mother, Latoya Perry, is currently serving a life sentence for drug trafficking. “Lost a big part of my heart when my mamma got locked up so this was a hard song to make, and this Sunday will be another Mother’s Day without her,” he said on Twitter. “Cherish y’all parents, I can’t hug or kiss neither of mines.”

Aside from the new song, Grizzley also confirmed June 7 as the release date for his upcoming album, Scriptures, the follow-up to his 2018 studio album Activated.
