TDE label boss confirms Kendrick Lamar will “return soon”

Kung Fu Kenny is coming.

Top Dawg Entertainment’s head honcho Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith recently confirmed that Kendrick Lamar is gearing up for his comeback.

During an Instagram Live session on Sunday, the TDE CEO told fans in the livestream comments to “stay patient” because “King Kendrick will return soon,” Complex reported. Tiffith, however, didn’t share more details about the progress on Lamar’s new music or when fresh songs would drop.

Tiffith’s comment comes after Billboard’s former editorial director Bill Werde claimed in a social media post in January that Lamar had already finished recording the follow-up to 2017’s DAMN. Werde said that the Compton rapper’s forthcoming album will feature “more rock sounds.”

However, Werde also added in the comments that though K Dot was finished with his album, it would take a while before it would be presented to the world. “Just because recording had hit a point where folks believe it may be finished—albums go back to the studio all the time after this point,” he wrote.

In March, Lamar launched a brand-new creative service company, pgLang, with his longtime collaborator Dave Free. The project, touted as a multilingual platform, arrived alongside a short film, starring rapper Baby Keem and actress Yara Shahidi, dubbed the “visual mission statement.”

In August 2019, Lamar returned to music briefly to collaborate with TDE labelmate SiR on the latter’s Chasing Summer single, “Hair Down.”
