Hip hop producer Swizz Beatz is about to drop a new solo full-length, Poison, in November. To ignite the buzz, he’s enlisted the help of Lil Wayne and Alicia Keys on a track called “Pistol On My Side (POMS).”
The incendiary track and accompanying visual have everything from irreverent references to a flaming piano. In other words, Lil Wayne’s back. Even the song seems to herald the rapper’s triumphant return from legal troubles with a grand orchestral opening—it sounds straight out of a Bond film—preceding the very first bars.
The rest of the song ebbs and flows like you would expect a Lil Wayne track to: Drugs, ladies and guns are recurring themes. The video is no less entertaining, with Beatz and Dr. Carter running riot in an indoor skate park. They then set a piano on fire, which Keys (aka Mrs Beatz) plays. Take it from us: No one looks as cool playing a burning piano as she does. Keys’ haunting melody makes for a fitting closure to the track.
Swizz Beatz’s Poison—which is co-produced by J Cole—lands next month. In the meantime, check out the video for “Pistol On My Side (POMS)” here:
