Smokepurpp returns to his SoundCloud rap roots on his new sophomore album, Florida Jit.
Produced by Ronny J, the 17-track record features a slew of star-studded collaborations with rappers such as Jack Harlow, Denzel Curry, Lil Pump, Rick Ross and more. The LP also includes the previously released songs, “Pop Shit” and “It’s Whatever.”
“I just wanted to do something for my city,” the Miami rapper told XXL about the album’s title. “I’ve got [fellow Miami native] Rick Ross on there. It’s really just back to the basics. Back to how it all started.”
Purpp—who has been plagued by persistent music leaks in the past—revealed that Florida Jit’s rollout had initially been derailed due to unauthorized releases. “Past the music, it just messes up everything. ’Cause we build a whole marketing plan, we waste thousands and thousands of dollars to shoot videos and do everything we have to do, clearances and stuff like that,” he said. “That’s a lot of money going down the drain when you just leak a song.”
