Smino, Guapdad 4000 remix Thundercat’s “Dragonball Durag”

The rappers add new verses to the funky track.

Thundercat has enlisted Smino and Guapdad 4000 for a remix of “Dragonball Durag,” a cut from his latest album It is What it is.

Apart from additional verses from the rappers, the rework doesn’t alter the original retro-inspired track much. It opens with Thundercat singing over a funky bassline before Smino hops in to deliver laid-back bars: “Sorry mamma, but your daughters the one / We just finished round six, started at one / We harmonize when we bust / The art of the gun.”

Meanwhile, Guapdad gets flirty with cheesy lines like “I’m your man, can’t you see that I’ve been doing shit” and “The Boy hot, I got the hots for you / Your hot tea no Lipton.” He also references his attention-grabbing outfit at the 2020 Grammys, where he wore a ten-foot-long silver durag. “I feel fire, I feel mythical, I’m fly, I’mma durag dragon / That why I showed up to the Grammys with my durag draggin’,” he spits.

“Dragonball Durag” was released in February, and received a whimsical visual treatment. Directed by comedian and rapper Zack Fox, the kooky video featured appearances from actress Quinta Brunson and musicians Kali Uchis and HAIM. Thundercat’s It is What it is album arrived in April on Brainfeeder.
