slowthai visits his childhood home in “Toaster” video

The Mercury Prize 2019 nominee drops a pensive visual.

Yesterday, slowthai made the shortlist of the Mercury Prize 2019 for his acclaimed debut album, Nothing Great About Britain. The rapper celebrated the nomination by dropping a new music video for “Toaster.”

The video captures the rapper returning to his childhood home in Lings, Northampton, for the first time in over a decade. As he opens the front door, the director encourages him to share “whatever comes to [his] head.” slowthai proceeds to recall recurring dreams he had as a child, his lousy attempts to skip school, accidents he had in the house and more, all while rapping along to “Toaster.”

The video makes for a homely, heart-warming companion piece to the clip for “Gorgeous,” which serves as a different portrait of Northampton. Watch the “Toaster” MV below:
