Sampa the Great, Whosane search for “Heaven”

The final single from Sampa’s debut album, ‘The Return.’

Sampa the Great is back with “Heaven,” featuring Whosane of Cape Town-based reggae band The Rudimentals, the final single before she unveils her debut album, The Return.

On the groovy song, the Sydney-based rapper recounts a near-death experience over soulful backing vocals provided by Whosane and Sampa’s younger sister, Mwanje. “Have I told you ’bout that time where I almost died / Almost tried to fit in with a new tribe / Really I’ve never been the one to have my head heavy-set / But these days I feel heaven-sent,” she raps.

“‘Heaven’ is where I detail my encounter with a ‘near-death experience’—or so I thought,” Sampa said in a statement. “With this experience, and in most cases for people who experience such, it causes you to change your thinking patterns and evaluate the importance of certain things in your life.”
