Run the Jewels have unveiled a video for their latest song, “Ooh La La,” featuring Greg Nice and production from DJ Premier.
Directed by Brian and Vanessa Beletic, the clip opens with an “ancient proverb” that foretells a day when “the battle between humanity and the force of greed” comes to an end. The duo then imagine a world free of division and economic disparity, taking to the streets to start a dance party and burning up all the cash on Earth. Nice and Premier appear in the clip, as does RTJ collaborator and Rage Against The Machine rapper Zack de la Rocha.
“We shot this video only a few weeks before the pandemic hit with no clue as to what the future held. The fact that we got the chance to do it is damn near miraculous in hindsight,” Killer Mike and El-P wrote in the video’s YouTube description.
“This video is a fantasy of waking up on a day that there is no monetary system, no dividing line, no false construct to tell our fellow man that they are less or more than anyone else. Not that people are without but that the whole meaning of money has vanished.”
“Ooh La La” will appear on the duo’s forthcoming album, Run the Jewels 4, alongside “Yankee and the Brave (ep 4).” While they haven’t announced an official release date for the LP, it’s expected to arrive later this year.
