Royce Da 5’9” shares video for “Tricked” featuring KXNG Crooked

A statement about our information age.

Royce Da 5’9” has unveiled a video for “Tricked,” the KXNG Crooked-assisted cut from his recently released album, The Allegory.

The clip features zombified people staring blankly into television screens, as news stations feed them fake news. Royce also flashes jewelry and cash, suggesting that up-and-coming rappers have been misled into extravagant lifestyles. The visual also includes archive footage of news broadcasts intercut with shots of Royce and KXNG spitting bars.

“I think we’re all being tricked with the information that we’ve been taking in, and the powers that be are doing the tricking,” Royce told Complex about the song. “For the majority of my verse, I’m speaking about being a black man coming up in a hostile environment and doing as the Romans do. Like a lot of things, that’s been indoctrinated into us. I use Crips and Bloods as an example. It’s a taught behavior. And by the time we reach a point of elevated consciousness, oftentimes we’re in it too far to get out of it.”

Besides “Tricked,” Royce’s The Allegory also features the songs “I Don’t Age” and “Overcomer.” Other contributors on the record, which arrived last week, include Eminem, Vince Staples, TI and more.
