Rowdy Rebel, DJ Funk Flex unveil video for “Re-Route”

Rebel’s first release since leaving prison.

Rowdy Rebel has teamed up with DJ Funk Flex for “Re-Route.”

The drill track is the Brooklyn rapper’s first new song since he was released from prison in December. On the track, Rebel pays tribute to the late Pop Smoke, with whom he collaborated on “Make it Rain” from Shoot For the Stars, Aim For the Moon.

“Middle fingers to the opps, they know how we rock / It ain’t no options, RIP to Pop Smoke / If we find out who did it, y’all know we gon’ pop them / Red beam, shot ’em, drop ’em, I’m just bein’ honest,” he spits. The accompanying video for “Re-Route” features Rebel and Flex performing in an abandoned warehouse in the Bronx.

Rebel was released from prison in December after serving six years behind bars. The 29-year-old was arrested in 2014 along with his labelmate Bobby Shmurda, and 13 others, on various charges including conspiracy, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Shmurda is expected to be released on February 23, after the New York State Department of Corrections restored his credit for good behavior. The rapper was previously denied parole in September 2020.
