Rich Brian shares his first single of the year, “Sydney”

The follow-up to his ‘1999’ EP.

Rich Brian has returned with a bouncy new track called “Sydney.”

The 88rising rapper spits about his rise to fame and high points of his career over a self-produced, synth-laden beat. “I’m a doctor’s writing, you can never fuckin’ read me / I just had my birthday and I wished that I could be me,” he spits. “I’m just working hard and hope that other people notice it / ’Cause making goals and not accomplishing them’s getting old to me.”

“I created ‘Sydney’ after listening to a ton of Three 6 Mafia,” Brian explained in a statement. “The entire production of this single was heavily inspired by the hip hop group. I also wanted to hear myself flexing about my life over some beautiful saxophone.”

He added that the song’s beat “naturally” reminded him of the Australian city Sydney—thus the title of the song—as well as his The Sailor tour, which headed Down Under in 2019. “The energy there was incredible both from the crowd and the amazing city. When I started rapping over this beat, Sydney was the city that naturally came to mind to flex with,” he said.

Prior to “Sydney,” Brian released his 1999 EP which featured the song “DOA.” Hear his latest single below:
