Rapsody has released “Ibtihaj,” a new single featuring two exciting guests: D’Angelo and GZA.
The song was produced by 9th Wonder, and opens with the elusive D’Angelo interpolating bars from “Liquid Swords,” the opening track of GZA’s classic record of the same name. The Wu Tang man himself appears later in the track to drop a verse.
The track is named after fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, the Olympian who was the first Muslim American athlete to wear a hijab while representing the USA. “Liquid Swords,” Rapsody quipped in a tweet. “Love to our Muslim sisters and brothers inspiring around the world.”
The day after the song dropped, Rapsody released the music video for “Ibtihaj,” featuring several hijabis, cameos from Roxanne Shanté and Mary J Blige, as well as a statement of solidarity with the Sudan revolution.
