Public Enemy return with “State of the Union (STFU)”

Chuck D and Flavor Flav join forces with DJ Premier.

Public Enemy have returned with an explosive new track called “State of the Union (STFU).”

Released on Juneteenth and produced by DJ Premier, the single features Chuck D and Flavor Flav taking aim at police brutality, systemic racism and Donald Trump. “Whatever it takes / Rid this dictator” and “Vote this joke out / Or die tryin’,” Chuck spits on his opening verse.

Flavor Flav joins in later on the chorus with a blunt message: “State of the Union / Shut the fuck up / Sorry ass motherfucker / Stay away from me.”

“You got to fight for the world that you want to see,” Chuck told Spin after dropping the track. “The entire world has a lot to go around for everyone and the fact that it doesn’t, it means that there’s always some kind of fuckery at the top. I was talking about things like this with [DJ] Premier last year and it was a no-brainer. I told him, ‘You pick the track and I’ll nail it.’”

Earlier this year, Public Enemy made headlines for apparently firing Flavor Flav after a dispute over a Bernie Sanders rally. About a month later, though, Chuck D clarified that the firing was a hoax and part of a promotional plan for his Enemy Radio project.
